Common Hematological Disorders in Patients with Schizophrenia: In-Patient Case — Control Study

INTRODUCTION: Although common hematological abnormalities (CHA) such as anemia, macrocytosis, and platelet dysfunction are often present in patients with schizophrenia, empirical data limited. Thus far, deviations have been mentioned either reports or a series of clinical cases.
 AIM: To study the incidence CHA schizophrenia.
 MATERIALS AND METHODS: This involved 791 schizophrenia [including those who did not receive medical drugs (n = 115) chronic 376)] 504 healthy volunteers. From each participant, blood samples were taken analyzed for using an automatic Coulter counter. In three groups, 2 tests analysis variance (ANOVA) conducted to compare variables.
 RESULTS: The macrocytosis was nearly same group (patients receiving medications, 10.5%; 10.6%) significantly higher than that control (4.2%). count considerably ([282.5 87.9] 103/L) ([277.0 92.8] ([249.6 85.2] 103/L), whereas differences concentration hemoglobin leukocytes insignificant.
 CONCLUSION: Patients proportion combination increased count, which shows underlying diseases should be diagnosed treated early possible. Moreover, prospective studies larger sample size necessary determine etiology these conditions schizophrenia.
